What is a book worth? Have you really sat down and contemplated this question? To be honest with you, it really, never came to my mind per se. Should there ever have been a time that I did think about it, it was only what the book cost me personally to read it. Based on who I am and the culture or lack of same, that I was reared in and not in any recollection of it. Many of those times with cost of books for me were Zero, Zilch, Nada, because of finding or by somebody giving or lending me books. The cost when it did incur/occur was nominal at most because of the Book being from a thrift store or close out of some kind. So for me no real personal value at that time.
Time and things have changed for me, especially since I was injured and have more time on my hands, not out sweating for the ‘Almighty Dollar’. In fact, appreciating the value of books now, I have joined ‘The Wife Of My Youth’, ‘The Lovely Marilyn’ in building our own Personal Library of books here at home and getting Uncle Sam to pay for it. I will write more about that later.
Before, … not giving any value or respect to books has changed completely a hundred and eighty degrees from where I was away back then. Just as you would treat a special friend with respect, you are showing that you value them. I no longer set my teacup or cereal bowl on them any more as I have given them worth. Now you might think of me of some kind of slob, yet you should appreciate the training I have received from The Lovely Marilyn for the last … getting close to five decades. “Get that off my Book!”
Let me touch on the intrinsic value of books for a moment. I have found out that that tea stain, nick in the jacket or a torn page, and will do to a book what driving a new car off the show room floor. No, it is even more so!
OK, let me stop there and the next time I will write about how much worth are those books that you uncovered in the basement and/or attic. Book Wealth understanding is a good thing! And … that is why I am here! DP
